Tiger Woods Wins 2019 Masters

Tiger Woods won the 2019 Masters by a shot over Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Xander Schauffele.

It looked like third-round leader Francesco Molinari was in control with a two-shot lead heading into the par-3 12th, but his tee shot found the water fronting the green which resulted in a double-bogey. Molinari also had a double-bogey 7 on the par-5 15th which essentially ended his chances.

Tiger played the steadiest round of all the leaders.  He said his plan was to be patient, and after birdies on 13, 15, and 16 he lead by 2 shots, with a careful bogey at the final hole providing the final margin.

Here are some highlights of Tiger’s final round:

Mickelson Beats Tiger in 22 Holes at “The Match”

It took 22 holes, but Phil Mickelson won “The Match” against Tiger Woods, and the $9 million prize.

Here are some highlights:

MIckelson failed to birdie the first hole, so lost the $200,000 side-bet to Tiger (which goes to a charity of Tiger’s choice). However, he did manage to win 3 out of 4 closest-to-the-pins, worth $100,000 each.

I did not watch it live, and the highlights were a little underwhelming. Both players shot 3-under 69s, with Tiger having 6 birdies and 3 bogeys, and Phil having 3 birdies and no bogeys.

In the post-match press conference, Phil says (somewhat jokingly) this gives him “bragging rights” over Tiger from now on.

I’m sure next American Thanksgiving there will be another “The Match”.

Paul Casey Passes Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed to Win 2018 Valspar

Paul Casey passed Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed to win the 2018 Valspar Championship.  Casey shot a final round of 6-under 65.  Tiger could only manage a final round of 1-under and Patrick Reed scored at 3-under.  Patrick Reed came to the final hole tied with Casey, but 3-putted for bogey to lose.  Be sure to watch the highlights video from PGA Tour’s Youtube page (below) to see how Patrick Reed 3-putted.

The win was Casey’s second on the Tour, and first since 2009.
