Lincicome Makes Ace and Lexi Shoots 61 at Bahamas

Brittany Lincicome had an ace in the second round and holds at 1-shot lead heading into the weekend at the Pure Silk Bahamas.

And Lexi Thompson shot at 61 to move into second place behind Lincicome.

Adam Hadwin Shoots (Yawn) 59 at Career Builder

Canada’s Adam Hadwin had 13(!) birdies at the CareerBuilder Challenge to become the first Canadian to shoot 59 on the PGA Tour. Hadwin’s round put him into first place after three rounds, and hopefully can have a strong final round to notch his first PGA Tour win.

Hard as it may be to believe, but it’s been more than a week since a 59 was shot on tour.

There are the best highlights I can find online at the moment:

Here is his scorecard (not too shabby).  His amateur partners (it’s a Pro-Am) didn’t really help him too much today.

Bubba Watson’s Jet Pack Golf Cart

Jet pack golf cart.  Those are four words that should probably never be used together, but Bubba Watson has other ideas.

I was watching a year-end news piece about inventions in the last 12 months and Bubba’s jet pack golf cart came up.  I didn’t see a video with the news piece so I had to run to Google to find out more.

I am not really sure how this would improve pace of play, and it might make you a target for the poor “ground bound” golfers to hit their drivers at, but it is interesting and ridiculous.

EuropeanTour’s Top-10 Protracer Shots of 2016 for Rory McIlroy

I think we can all agree that the coolest addition to golf telecasts in recent years is the “protracer”.

Here is the EuropeanTour’s top 10 Protracer shots of 2016 for Rory McIlroy.

And here is his swing in slow motion

USGA, R&A Eliminate Penalty for Accidental Ball Movement on Green

The USGA and R&A have instituted a local rule that will eliminate the penalty for accidentally causing the ball to move on the green.

You may remember that the controversy of the penalty for moving the ball on the green came to a head during the final round of the 2016 U.S. Open when Dustin Johnson had been ruled (incorrectly) to have caused his ball to move after taking practice strokes adjacent to the ball, but had not yet addressed the ball.  Johnson, and all other contenders, played with the knowledge that an infraction may have taken place, but the USGA did not make an official ruling on the penalty for a number of holes, during which time the players were not entirely sure of their position on the leaderboard.

The USGA and R&A instituted this local rule, eliminating the penalty, to have it applied until they can update the official rules of golf.

Here is the new “local rule”, and you can read more about this at Golf.com:

When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment.

The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1.

This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting greens and any movement is accidental.

Note: If it is determined that a player’s ball on the putting green was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location. A ball-marker moved in such circumstances is replaced.

Hideki Matsuyama Wins Hero World Challenge

Hideki Matsuyama won the Hero World Challenge by 2-shots over Henrik Stenson. The win was Matsuyama’s fourth in his last five starts worldwide (he finished 2nd in his other start). Here are the highlights of the final round from the PGA Tour’s Youtube page.

Tiger led the field in number of birdies made (24), but made too many mistakes and finished in 15th place (out of 18 players who started the tournament, and 17 who finished it), fourteen shots behind the winner.
