Dustin Johnson Wins Bridgestone – Now #1 in Power Rankings

Dustin Johnson won the Bridgestone Invitational by a shot over Scott Piercy for his second consecutive win (the other being the U.S. Open where Piercy was also 2nd).  The win also moved Johnson to the top position of our Power Rankings, taking over the top-ranking from Lydia Ko.

Here is a video of final round highlights from PGA Tour’s YouTube page.

Dustin Johnson Wins U.S. Open

Dustin Johnson won the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont by FOUR* shots over  Jim Furyk, Scott Piercy, and Shane Lowry.  (The * because the USGA decided that Johnson committed a penalty on the fifth green, and they decided it when Johnson was on the 11th or 12th hole, and had already received a ruling on it way back on the fifth green and still assessed him a penalty after the round which made it actually a THREE shot win).  Regardless of the ineptness of the USGA, congrats to Dustin on his first major win!

Here is the moment on the 18th green with Johnson’s caddy who happens to be his brother.

Here is Dustin being interviewed on Fox at the trophy presentation.

And here is how good he was for the week.

There is no doubt the best player won this week.

Canadian Brooke Henderson Wins KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

Brooke Henderson won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in a playoff over Lydia Ko with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Henderson shot a final round 6-under 65, which was the lowest round of the week at Sahalee Country Club.

Here is the trophy presentation.

Here is Henderson’s birdie putt on 17 that tied her for the lead with Ko.

Henderson then made an incredible up-and-down for par from about 100-yards out on eighteen, and then won on the first hole of the playoff.

Great job Brooke!!

Ariya Jutanigarn Wins Third Straight Tournament – Now No.1 on Power Rankings

Ariya Jutanigarn won again on the LPGA.  After a number of near misses, she now had won her last 3 tournaments which has allowed to climb the Power Rankings and take over the no. 1 spot.

Today Ariya won the LPGA Volvik Championship, to go along with her previous wins at Kingsmill Championship and the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic.

Other winners today were Jordan Spieth at Colonial (I will not ever refer to this tournament as the Dean and Deluca, or MasterCard, or any other dumb name. It’s the Colonial!!) and Chris Wood at on the European Tour at the BMW PGA Championship. Jordan’s win moved him up 21 spots to no. 12 on the Power Rankings, and Chris Wood’s win elevated him from 335 to 55.
