About Jay

Weekend golfer whose goal is to always break 80.

Essential Jack Nicklaus

I’m late to the party with this post, as Jack’s Memorial tournament was last weekend.

Here is a Youtube video by PGATour of the Essential Jack Nicklaus.

Here is a clip from Jack’s famous instruction series, “Golf My Way”.

And here is one of Jack’s most famous shots, the 1-iron at the 17th of Pebble Beach that hit the flagstick on the way to winning the 1972 U.S. Open.

Essential Byron Nelson

This week is the Byron Nelson Championship, so I went looking for some video of Byron.

Here is what I found:

And here is his swing frame by frame:

And finally, here Wayne Defrancesco (whoever that is) does a full analysis of Byron’s Swing:

Everyone talks about Byron’s record for consecutive wins, but I think finishing in the top-20 for 113 consecutive tournaments is even more incredible.

David Leadbetter on Golf Fix

David Leadbetter was recently on the Golf Fix and chatted with Michael Breed.  He talked a lot about how important is the proper sequence of motion in the golf swing, and a little bit about what he is working on with Lydia Ko.  I found it pretty interesting.

David Letterman and Golf

One of my heroes is David Letterman.  I grew up watching Letterman.  I would tape Late Night every night and watch half of it the next day when I was getting ready for school and the second half when I would get home.

Dave is retiring, so I did a search for Dave and golf and this is what I found.

Years ago Dave took part in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.  Here is his tale of his week at Pebble Beach.

And then there was this clip from way back in the NBC days of Biff Henderson’s Golf Cart of Death.

I miss Dave already.

Rory McIlroy Rides Third-Round 61 to Wells Fargo Win

Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship in record-setting fashion, finishing at 22-under par. On his way to victory, McIlroy broke his own course record with a third-round 61.  Here are the highlights of the 61.

This wasn’t Rory’s first time shooting 61.  He did it 10 years ago as at 16 year-old at Royal Portrush, and here are the highlights of that round. It’s kind of cool watching this, especially how the crowds are all walking down the fairway with him as he plays.

Fowler Wins Players Championship

Rickie Fowler won the Players Championship in a playoff with Kevin Kisner and Sergio Garcia.

A couple of years ago Rickie went to Butch Harmon and work on some swing changes to make himself more consistent. It worked out as Rickie finished in the top-5 for all 2014 majors, and then today earned his second career win, and what a win it was, with the Players.

To get the win, Rickie was 6-under par for his final 6 holes.

Here are a couple of videos I found for Rickie.  One from Golfing World about what Rickie is working on with Butch.

And another video, produced by the PGA Tour, which really tells you nothing about what Rickie is working on, except that he is happy with the results so far.
